Key takeaways
- Turnover is the total amount you must bet before bonus winnings can be withdrawn.
- Check whether turnover applies to the bonus only, or to deposit plus bonus.
- Total required betting = the turnover base x the multiplier.
- Large turnover requirements can lock your whole balance for a long time.
What turnover actually is
Turnover — sometimes called a wagering or rollover requirement — is the total value of bets you must place before winnings connected to a bonus can be withdrawn. It is written as a multiplier, such as 10x or 20x.
The key point is that turnover counts bets placed, not money won or lost. If you bet RM1 a hundred times, you have generated RM100 of turnover, whatever the results.
The basic formula
Required turnover = turnover base x multiplier
The "turnover base" is the part that catches people out. It is usually one of two things:
| Turnover base | Example: RM100 deposit, RM20 bonus, 10x |
|---|---|
| Bonus only | RM20 x 10 = RM200 of bets |
| Deposit + bonus | (RM100 + RM20) x 10 = RM1,200 of bets |
Same bonus, same multiplier — but the second version requires six times as much betting. Always ask which one applies.
Worked example 1: a small welcome bonus
You top up RM50 and receive a RM10 bonus with 15x turnover on the bonus only.
- Required turnover: RM10 x 15 = RM150 of bets.
- At RM1 per spin, that is about 150 spins.
- Reasonable for a small session, as long as the bonus does not lock your RM50 deposit.
Worked example 2: deposit-plus-bonus turnover
You top up RM200 and receive a RM60 "30% bonus" with 20x turnover on deposit plus bonus.
- Required turnover: (RM200 + RM60) x 20 = RM5,200 of bets.
- At RM2 per spin, that is around 2,600 spins.
- Because every bet carries a house edge, betting this much will, on average, wear down your balance before you finish. The bonus is likely to cost more than it gives.
Worked example 3: free credit with a cap
You receive RM10 free credit with 30x turnover and a maximum cash-out of RM50.
- Required turnover: RM10 x 30 = RM300 of bets.
- Even if you finish with RM400, the most you can withdraw is RM50.
- Read max cash-out caps on bonus wins before relying on any free credit.
Why big turnover usually loses
Every slot spin has a built-in house edge, which means the game is designed to return slightly less than is bet over time. The more you are required to bet, the more that edge works against you. A large turnover requirement does not just delay your withdrawal — it statistically shrinks the balance you will have left when you get there. Our guide to RTP and volatility explains why.
A quick decision checklist
Before accepting any bonus, work out:
- Is turnover on the bonus only, or deposit plus bonus?
- What is the total betting required, in ringgit?
- Does it lock your deposit until turnover is met?
- Is there a maximum cash-out on bonus winnings?
- Do all games count toward turnover?
If the total required betting is many times larger than you would normally spend in a month, decline the bonus. See when to decline a KISS918 bonus.
Do all games count toward turnover?
Not always. Some agents count every game equally; others count certain games at a reduced rate or exclude them entirely. If a game counts at 50%, a RM2 bet contributes only RM1 toward your turnover — which doubles the betting needed. Ask your agent:
- "Do all games count 100% toward turnover?"
- "Are any games excluded while the bonus is active?"
- "Is there a maximum bet size while I am meeting turnover?"
Breaking a maximum-bet rule while a bonus is active is a common reason for winnings to be forfeited, so this is worth knowing before you play. See How KISS918 Bonuses Get Forfeited.
Turnover on rebates and free credit
Turnover does not only apply to welcome bonuses. Rebates, reload bonuses and free credit often carry their own requirements, sometimes higher than a welcome offer. Treat every promotional credit as conditional until you have checked its terms. Our guides to rebates and cashback and reload bonuses cover these.
Tracking your progress
Ask your agent how much turnover remains at any point — they can usually see it in their system. Keep your own rough count too, so you are not surprised when you request a withdrawal. If a withdrawal is refused for unmet turnover, see Why a KISS918 Withdrawal Gets Rejected.
Frequently Asked Questions
Usually yes. Turnover counts the value of bets placed, not your winnings, so every bet you place adds to it whether it wins or loses. Check your agent's terms, as some games may count at a reduced rate or not at all.
It depends on the agent. Some lock the entire balance until turnover is met; others let you forfeit the bonus and withdraw the rest. Ask before accepting.
